Creating a solid, sober foundation from therapeutic services and real-life experiences

The Cairn Outpatient Program is an IOP that gets you out there

We’re committed to an experiential approach combined with a traditional clinical setting. Independent adult life can be challenging and it’s our responsibility to help you navigate the discomfort while staying clean and sober. We regularly explore Asheville with our clients and continue their clinical work outside the four walled container of our space, whether that’s rock climbing, paddle boarding, hiking, or even art therapy in nature.

Building your tool kit with a variety of life skills

Staying sober is worth it, and we want to make sure you are able to process early sobriety in a healthy, productive way. We walk you through a journey of healing by helping you process addiction, trauma, family dynamics, and unhealthy relationships. And we not only teach you how to work through conflict, manage your emotions, and navigate triggers to prevent relapse, but emphasize practical skills e.g. cooking, grocery shopping, and budgeting.

Our services

We serve both residents of Ember Lodge, and individuals in sober living environments. At the start of the program, our clients see their therapist up to two times per week, and are engaged in a minimum of 9 hours of group therapy per week. We have a psychiatrist that sees our clients once every other week for medication management.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The easiest answer here is: both.

The Cairn is clinical space of Ember Lodge. All residents of Ember will receive their IOP services exclusively at The Cairn. Our staff at Ember are in direct communication with our clinicians at The Cairn. This gives us the benefit of having an unobstructed, transparent view of our clients’ sobriety journey.

However, The Cairn is not exclusively reserved for the clients of Ember Lodge. You do not need to be a resident at Ember Lodge to be a client. It is, in fact, its own separate entity and we serve individuals in the Asheville area in a sober living situation.

  • We are out of network with insurance.

  • The time spent in IOP really depends on the client. Generally our program lasts between 2-4 months.

  • IOP stands for Intensive Outpatient Program. It’s not inpatient as the clinical space is in a separate building, requiring that you have to come to the center for a several hours, a few days a week.
